How to determine if you have the most recent video card (Windows)

Issue:

If you are having display issues, your video card may be out of date, and you want a quick way to find the latest driver.

Solution:

  1. If you have just one video card on your computer you can user that DxDiag Utility.
  • On your Windows Start menu, enter DXDIAG and press Enter.
    A dialog box reports your video information.

  • Look at what brand of video card you have and go to the manufacturer of your video card's website.
    The website can help you download newer drivers.
  1. If you have a newer laptop or a computer with multiple video cards, you will need to use the Windows System Information page to look up the information on your video cards.
  • On your Windows Start menu, enter MSInfo32 and press Enter.

  • The Adapter Description will let you know the current video driver install.
  • The Driver line will provide you with the date that the driver was published.
  1. If the driver was published more than 6 months previous to the date that you are reading this, you will want to look at installing the latest WHQL certified driver for your video card:
